Poland National Flag

$42.99 $29.97

The National flag of Poland consists of two horizontal stripes of equal width. The upper stripe is white and the lower is red. These two colors are defined in the Polish constitution as the national colors of Poland. A similar variation of the flag (called Bandera) with the national coat of arms lying on the middle of the white stripe, is legally reserved for official use abroad and at sea. Another similar flag with the addition of a swallow-tail is used as the naval ensign of Poland.

The original flag of the Republic of Poland was adopted on August 1, 1919; however, the exact color of the red was not clearly stated. Then on January 31, 1980 due to the fact that the red needed to be more scientific, the color; crimson 2, was officially adopted as the color of the red on the flag of Poland.

The reason behind the colors present in the National flag of Poland is the fact that these colors are usually found in military flags and royal standards from earlier times. The white is said to represent the hope for peace by all of its citizens and the red is to symbolize the many struggles for freedom over the centuries.

The flag is flown continuously on the buildings of the highest national authorities, such as the parliament and the presidential palace. Other establishments and many Polish citizens fly the national flag on national holidays and other special occasions of national significance. Current Polish law does not restrict the use of the national flag without the coat of arms as long as the flag is not disrespected.

Since 2004, polish Flag Day is celebrated on May 2nd.
