What is the Flag of the United States Air Force?

The flag of the United States Air Force depicts the Air Force’s crest and shield against a blue field.  Also known as the Ceremonial Department flag, it features the Department of the Air Force’s coat of arms with an American bald eagle in the center and a formation of clouds.  Above the coat of arms is a crescent of stars. The flag of the United States Air Force features 13 stars, which wrap over the top of the coat of arms.

History of the Flag of the United States Force

The origins of the flag of the United States Air Force can be traced back to 1951. During this year, President Harry Truman adopted the first official flag for the United States Air Force. Reports show that Dorothy Gatchell was responsible for creating the flag’s design.

The flag of the United States Force is symbolic for many reasons. It features the North American bald eagle within the crest and shield. As you may know, the North American bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. The flag of the United States also features 13 stars. Like the stripes on the American flag, they represent the original 13 colonies.

The 2 Versions of the Flag of the United States Force

Both versions of the flag were adopted in 1951. Since then, neither of them has changed.
